Because he sees you as a buddy,not a romantic interests. In his view, you two have a good camaraderie, which allows for updating each other about what goes on in your love lifes. You mention that occasionally you are intimate, so I guess you think he could spare you the bits about his other women. But he does not see it this way. Men are very good in separating sex from romance. To him you are just a friend, and he talks to you as he would to any of his pals.
