A question for men about lads mags...I'm just curious as to why so many men find the kind of women in mens magazines so sexy? I mean, typically, the women you see in these magazines, have fake tan, lots of make up, and fake breasts. What exactly is so attractive about that look? Do any men prefere to look at women that aren't that fake, say women with small natural breasts or women without all of the slap on? I just don't understand the attraction to women that look to me, cheap and unclean! Just curious and would like a man's imput as to why men are more sexually turned on by these kinds of women?

A female reader, k_c100 United Kingdom +, writes (7 June 2010):

k_c100 agony auntWell reverse the situation - why do women in general lust after the guys we see in the movies, who have worked out like demons for 6 months prior to the movie to get in shape, whose make up artists use plenty of make up on them to make them look amazing (plus they use brozer to define the muscles, like they do for women's clevages), and who are airbrushed and only look the way they do because of clever lighting? (think Gerard Butler in 300 - looked amazing but was totally fake!)

Surely this is just as fake as a woman with fake boobs and lots of make-up!

It is because that is what is deemed "traditonally" attractive to women - men with muscles, sharp features and an overal healthy, masculine radiance. Hardly any women swoon over Toby Maguire, yet Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Jake Gylenhall and the like all are major "hotties". And why is this - because poor old Toby is short, pale, and slim.

So while we can criticize men all we want for looking at these girls in lads mags, we are just as bad when we are watching hollywood movies lusting after the main man in the film.

It is just what society has dictated is typically attractive - the hourglass figure is what has always been the ideal woman. So slim waist, big boobs and a bit of a curve around the hip area. And many girls who aspire to be glamour models dont always have all this - hence they get the fake boobs to fit this "ideal". The hourglass figure has always been the ideal, right back to the time when we were cave men and cave women. Hips and breasts were a sign that the woman is fertile and will carry children well - whereas slim hips and no boobs is more of a child like figure which means she is not ready for children. So men have this "ideal" instilled into their brains through evolution - it is an unshakeable foundation for the ideal woman that is only enforced through society and the media.

So to worry about this is trying to fight evolution - and that is pretty pointless! Yes these women are fake - they only look that way because of great lighting, clever make-up, hair stylists, 2 hour a day work outs, and as much plastic surgery as they can afford. And believe it or not, men are aware of this! They would not want to date one of these women - yes they are nice to look at in a magazine, but when all the make-up comes off and they touch their fake bodies, the fantasy would be ruined.

Because that is all it is - a fantasy. Men like visual things, sex for men is very visual whereas for women it is emotional. So seeing a very attractive woman (real or fake) is exciting to them, and they enjoy looking at it. Their brains respond to what they can see, whereas for us girls our brains respond to what we feel. Men dont care if it is real or fake - it just looks nice. Whereas our emotional brains do care if our man is real or fake - if we looked at a guy who was clearly wearing make-up and felt very fake due to surgery, we would be turned off by the idea of it.

You have to understand this fundamental difference in the male and female brains - we are wired very differently and we should not feel upset by this. It is simply biology!

Men dont want to date this girls - I cannot stress this enough. They like to look but when it comes to a girl for a relationship - they want a woman who looks great when she wakes up in the morning with no make up on and bed hair. What really is the harm in men having these fantasy women? So what if they look at some girl in magazine with fake boobs and like what they see?

I have heard so many men talk about yes fake boobs look great but when you touch them they feel disgusting - they would much rather have the real deal any day!

And one final thing - you must stop generalising men in this way. You cannot go around thinking ALL men like this - we each have our own "types" that we are attracted to. So some men may like girls with big boobs and a curvy figure, while others like petite slim girls with small boobs. You would never generalise that all girls like men with huge muscles and who are over 6ft, so I dont understand why we as women are allowed to generalise that all men like this one type of woman who has big boobs! Why can we not just be happy in the knowledge that different men like different types of women, and seen as there are over 6 billion people on this planet surely at least one man is going to like our own shape!

So please stop worrying about this, regardless of what your shape is there will be a man out there who thinks you are very sexy. And as for the lads mags - these girls are just a fantasy to some men (not all men read these mags remember) and even for the guys who do read these mags, they want to keep these girls as fantasy, they will never become reality!

I hope this helps and good luck!

Basically it's just a cheap thrill. That's it. We don't look at them and want the woman we love to be like that. Well, some guys do, and they're usual the ones who have problems. But a good, normal guy will just accept you and love you for you who are. When you find the right guy, no other woman will compare to you. But until that right guy finds you, he'll just continue with the cheap thrill.

A female reader, Gabrielle Stoker United States +, writes (7 June 2010):

Gabrielle Stoker agony auntThere are no universal rules of attraction, you know. These girls in Lad's Mags are generally pretty faces with slim waists, which most men are hard-wired to appreciate. Hell I'm a pretty face with a slim waist (though I don't go overboard with make-up or fake breasts) and am glad that's what guys like. In the typical lad's mag, if such a girl is showing a lot skin, of course it's a turn-on.

As for the fake tits, well I think if a girl had the same size/shape naturally, that would trump fake everytime, but failing that, fake will do for most guys.
