We have been hanging out and I get a sense of 'missing' when we are separate.I have been told that it isn't a sign for being in love, but if this is not the case, then why do I feel this way? Out of all the guys I have hung out with, he is the one whom I am most keen on. Also, if his text messages don't reflect affection in any way, does that mean I am misunderstood as he clearly doesn't see me in the same way as I do?? Please help.

No, it simply means you miss the company of the guy you're seeing. It doesn't have to mean love and everyone experiences that at one point whether you're dating someone or you haven't seen your friends for a week etc
Surely if you're seeing him he's got to reflect some kind of affection??? Outside of texting, does he?
If you're in a new relationship then give it time, not all emotions and feelings will be declared straight away but will be in the stage of getting to know each other
