Why do I feel jealous if he's just a friend?

Question - (9 May 2011) 1 Answers - (Newest, 10 May 2011)
A female age 30-35, anonymous writes:

Ive known this guy for a long time and have only recently got to know him well and see him for who he is. We have a great laugh and have become closer than we were before. He is older than me and has a girlfriend who he has been dating for a long time. Although I've got to know him and realised that he isn't a jackass (which is what I thought of him before) and I like him as a friend but not in any other way. But the thing I dont understand is if I don't fancy him than why do I feel so jealous and bitter when he is around his girlfriend ?

spinnaker agony auntYour jealousy and bitterness could stem from the fact that he shares similar good times with his girlfriend and you feel a bit marginalized.

It is a competition over someone's time and not neccessarily someone's heart.
