A female United States age 30-35, *nonymous1776 writes:

Hello people of this earth! I need desprate help with my friends. I love my friends with all my heart, but sometimes I honest to God just want to die. Well, I'm not the most popular girl in school. I am actually considered nerd, geek, wierdo, freak, dork, and yeah the list goes on. One would think that my friends would help me cope with such situations but instead they make it worse. First of all I am not the tallest person ever. I am only 4' 10". Well my friends will make jokes and call me Yoda, Shorty, or other immature jokes about my size. That's another thing, SIZE. Okay I am not fat but I am not skinny. I have a little bit fat. Two of my friends whom I considered friends made fun of me when I wasn't on the bus after school once about this topic. My best friend told me what they said the next day and there in band class I started crying. The comment was,"She's short and she's fat but she already knows that". Yeah not nice. Then just a couple days ago I tell my good friend that I like this one guy, and he is very popular. My friend replies with, "Keep dreaming, you're too much or a nerd/freak thing to go out with him!" No he wasn't joking when he said that. then when I told him that I caught this guy staring at me in class my friend then told me,"Oh, well he was probably thinking that your such a freak or a nerd or something. I doubt he even knows your name" Well I am very hurt and have been crying the past couple nights about how mean my friends have gotten the past couple days. I just don't know what to do. Please Please Please help.

OMG! That's soooo horrible...they aren't your friends. I have "friends" like that too and I can't win because when i decided i didn't want to be friends with them anymore they got even meaner so it's hard..but...you might just have to try an ignore it.

With the thing about the guy, what your friend said was made to knock you down. She doesn't want a guy looking at you because she's selfsish...it's behaviour like this that will turn someone into a not nice person. I doubt these so called friends will turn out succesfully in life if they carry on like this, eventually everyone will realise that they're not nice.

agonyunclechris agony auntheya hun. i know what your going through. i used to get this ABUSE all the time. its horrible, its cruel and there is no need for it. your REAL friends wouldnt do this, i can tell you because i have moved on from these abusive people and now i have true friends.

i realised the abusive people just want to get you down, they will do anything to wipe the smile from your face, and i realised why, because im a genuine person, i dont go around cussing people, im kind and loving, i dont have a bad word to say about anybody. and they cant stand the fact that im different, they say weird is wonderfull. and thats so true.but if you dare to be different and put your neck out of line it will be chopped off. i think you need to find some real friends. some people who respect you, and who have your back while u have theirs. god bless you. chris

A reader, I Dont Lie +, writes (30 October 2008):

I Dont Lie agony auntThings people say or do will always have an effect on us, despite those that tell you that they dont let it affect them. Having said that, you need to realise that things will be and are different once you're out of school. According to surveys, school apparently is the hardest times for most people, especially women. In Britain alone, 3 out of 5 women claimed they have been bullied at school. Now the funny thing is, a lot of these bullied people turn out to be quality people (high earning professions, comfortable life, etc). A lot of them also turn out to be the ones looking better as they tend to invest a lot of time changing themselves (possibly due to previous bad experiences in school), going to the gym, eating right, basically living the healthy lifestyle.

You can't shut them up, but you can focus your frustration and anger onto something else. Maybe take up a sport, maybe start reading a book, writing a novel. You have to understand that this is part of growing up unfortunately. Good luck

I am so sorry! You don't deserve to be treated like that! Have you tried talking to them about it? If that doesn't work then try making new friends b/c no one deserves that! Hope I'm helping!
