First of all; DON'T GIVE UP!
Try some new things with your present guy; don't come off like you want to have distance from him. Surprise him with a gift, ask him out to the movies, etc. Do all the nice things you used to do back in the beginning. If you continue to get into arguments ask him whats up, confront him: "I love you, you know that, but we've been getting into so many spats lately I just wanted to know if anything has been bothering you and if so, can I help? I want this to last.."
If all those don't work, shoot for the new guy-
but if I were you i'd wait.
if you decide to break it with the present, guy don't hook up with the new one fast; be friends with him first. Id you get into a new relationship fast it'll loose it's sparkle, you'll loose 'the chase'.
goodluck!
