Who says "I love you" first and does it matter?

Question - (26 June 2009) 2 Answers - (Newest, 26 June 2009)
A female United States age 36-40, anonymous writes:

So just personal opinions, who should say I love you first? The man, the woman or does it not matter? And why? I feel like there is an unspoken (maybe outdated?) rule that the man leads i.e. asks the woman out, calls first, says I love you first, etc. Is it better to let him take the lead (or at least let him think so!) or should we ladies go on ahead?

Danielepew agony auntThis question assumes that man and woman love each other, they both know that, but the relationship can't start if the man does not speak first. If both love each other, perhaps taking the initiative would help, whoever says the three words first.

Of course it matters!

Whoever feels it first and wants it out there says it first.
