Who knew that the reality of living together would not match the fantasy in my head?

A female , anonymous writes:

I moved out of my parents house 6 months ago and got a flat with my boyfried of 3 years. For the first 4 months everything was great, but recently sex seems to have taken a back seat i.e only having sex once a week for12 minutes. We make plans to have a romantic night together and everything goes well until my partner falls asleep.I am begining to feel rejected, although I know that this is probably a result of his stressful job. How can we resolve this problem, as we both love each other very much and seem to be very attracted to each other.

Tell me about it. I moved in with my boyfriend and the same thing happened. We love each other but he just doesn't seem to be very interested in sex any more. It is frustrating and hard to understand.

I doubt it is anything against you, and very much doubt he is rejecting you. He may have gone like this regardless of who he is with. Stress certainly does have an effect on a person's sex drive. Maybe ask him about his lack of interest and/or wait and see what happens with he is less stressed.

All the best.

A male reader, soulmasseur +, writes (5 September 2006):

This is a common setback with the couples in their first or second year of being together. The first few months 'every thing goes fantastic' because you are still not fully on the track: the relationship has not taken its final shape and shows you an ever-changing face. Be realistic, as you pointed to his stressful job, and try other folds of your relatinship. A healthy, dependeble relationship does not revolve only around sex or sexual pleasur though it's a huge part. Besides it's too much early to think about winding it up. Any mutual relationship is multifacet and should be turned inside out to the last inch. You got plenty of room to maneuver
