As random as this might sound, working part-time in a pub can help both your confidence and your social life. I worked in a pub and although it wasn't really my scene, I've found that I'm able to talk to people I'd never have even looked at before and I've made friends for life working there. Even just visiting the pub for a quiet drink.

Also the gym, people get chatting in there sometimes, you just need to find the right time for you in your local gym.

Dance/zumba/swimming/running clubs and classes are booming at the minute.

Volunteering.

There are so many ways to meet people, I don't know if you study or work or whatever but uni is a good way to meet people, but if not, go out on a student night, everything is cheaper and there's loads of people looking to make new friends and have a good night out. Go and join in with them, it will improve your confidence! :)

PrincessRiches agony auntThere are lots of things you can do to make new friends. You could join a gym, or an organisation that you are interested in, this will give you a chance to meet people with similar intrests to you, and you are more likely to make friends you have things in common with.

Why not befriend someone at work, or enroll in a course you are interested in?

I met a lot of my close friends through friends as well, so if you befriend some people and they invite you places with their other friends, then get to know them, and you'll find yourslf part of the group.

Friendships don't happen overnight, they take some time to evolve, so just be yourself, show people you are willing to make friends and you'll hopefully find yourself with a whole bunch of new friends.
