I know my boyfriend doesn't like me changing it all the time. But he also tells me it looks good no matter how I have it and just do what makes me happy.
You'll find he's just being nice. Most guys normally are in this occasion.

Errm. To be honest, sometimes we do it to be nice. I love my girlfriend very much, but sometimes she does a thing here and there that I don't quite agree with. She once got a haircut that just didn't work. I just put on my best smile.
Your boyfriend will want you to be happy, like I want my girlfriend to be happy. And if you want to do something like get a haircut, or dye your hair, and your boyfriend says 'do what makes you happy', then the truth is he wants you to be happy. So go be happy.
