Did we all stop? Is this like that thing where we turned out all the lights for a hour to promote conservation against global warming? What are we stopping masturbating for? It better be good if I'm giving it up!

Just curious, why on earth did you stop?
As Woody Allen says: "Don't knock masturbation, it's sex with someone I love"
I think this is a joke post everyone.

I think I was about 15. The last time was .... (let me think).... the night before last. It's not only a pleasure and a relief, it's a good way to keep your sexual organs greased up and in good working order. :)

A
reader, anonymous, writes (4 May 2008): I started around age 10 or 11, and haven't quite stopped yet. Most little girls and boys unconsciously stroke themselves, but once they realize what's up...lol.
Yea, so I used to do it all the time, at least once a day. I think it's good for you and relieves stress. However, after becoming sexually active at 16, my urge for masturbation has subsided mostly, and my thoughts of sex have as well (except for when that wave of sexual desire comes over you). Going solo can be a stress reliever, pain reliever (my headache usually goes away after), mood-lifter, and a calming practice. However, playing with a friend is more intimate.

I started when I was 13 and I am now 39 and have never stopped, apart from occasional periods of time when I was feeling down. When I am fine and all is well, usually at least once a day - it is GOOD for you!!

A
male

It is a way to explore new sexual ideas without ever involving another person until you are ready. Married people often find it is another avenue to please their partners. I love to watch my wife masturbate and she watches me as well. I masturbate her almost everyday because i love to touch her so much. Often it is a quickie before i head out to work and i leave it to her to take a nice long time after i leave to finish up what i started. We have been married for 35 years and i still touch her sexually every single day. I love how her body feels under my hands and she loves to be touched. She says it is very comforting, especially when she feels sad at becoming older. She doesn't tell me every time she masturbates; it is not necessary. All i want is for her to stay happy and enjoy life and masturbations is a part of all that.

I started around the age of 15 and I am now 24 and I continue to masturbate. It is just a great feeling although it is a huge secret, my husband doesn't even know I do it.

Susan, I loved your answer :-).
I think it´s obvious that people don't have the same "starting age" and then an "ending age" for a sexual practice.

A

reader, anonymous, writes (3 May 2008): Stop? I'm 45 (female), have been helping myself since before I knew what I was doing, but just got my first vibrator, so have "rediscovered" the art anew. I grew up when it wasn't discussed. I made a point to make sure my daughters knew it was more than OK. Masturbation is a good way to be in control of your needs. Also, I have the opinion that a woman who masturbates to orgasm has a more healthy uterus, with less painful menstrual cramps and more strength to deliver a healthy baby, when that time comes. If you are in a sexual relationship it is a good idea to be up front about individual activities. Make sure your partner is ok with it. You wouldn't want to take away from her enjoyment of you, if you value that relationship.
