I think that infatuation is a short-term obsession probably based on lust, desire, but without knowing that person to any great depth. There is an attachment that feels like 'love' but infatuation can be overwhelming and destructive as it may be to the exclusion of rational thinking. I think it is a dangerous period where affairs can start where the 'sufferer' believes they are 'in love', but the effect fades once that person is known to a deeper level. I think that is why old-fashioned rules on relationships come from, because getting past the infatuation phase before having sex allows really getting to know that person likes you enough to stick with you as a person, their values in life etc.

infatuation is a short-lived passion. usually its based on sexual attraction.
having sex with someone that your infatuated with wouldent work for a relationship..because its just physical attraction..and you get bored. simple as that.
you might confuse love and infatuation..but love isnt going anywhere..you'll still have strong feelings for someone after youve had their sex.
