What's proper protocol on who says "I love you" first?

Question - (12 May 2009) 2 Answers - (Newest, 13 May 2009)
A female United States age 41-50, anonymous writes:

Is he already in love with me but not saying those three words?

After a few weeks of dating he said, 'I think I'm falling for you.'

Weeks later he said, 'You know you love me.' I played it off and said, 'No, you love me.' We both laughed at left it at that.

This weekend he says, 'That was hot because it was given to you with love.'

Is he in the same place I am? I'm head over heels for this guy but not sure if this is guy talk..

Also, we're taking our first trip together in a few weeks. Just a weekend get-away. I know I shouldn't be the first to say I Love You, right?

A male reader, CommonSpencer United States +, writes (13 May 2009):

why is everything the mans responsibility? I told a girl I was in a three month relationship I loved her and she told me she could never love me... I guess that's the worst it could possibly get.

why shoudln't you?

- stop playing games - there are no rules. If its how you feel tell him.

it does not make you weaker

it does not give him divine power over you.

you are just being honest.

sigh.
