Now im guessing thats not very healthy, because now when we do have sex, his penis starts to hurt. And we looked at it the other day and it was red and sore looking. Im not sure what to do about it. We have decided about taking a break for awhile to see if that would help. But my question is, is that bound to happen when you have too much sex?

It is quite natural for his knob to look red-raw if he's not used to sex on quite that regular a basis but so long as you are naturally 'wet' throughout the act - it won't get any worse and will definitely start to look better once you both get acclimatised to the frequency of your lovemaking.
Don't forget nature's message: if the guy knows he's gonna get discomfort in any way from the act you are about to perform, he won't be able to rise to the occasion!

this happened with my fiance and i when we first moved in together. Give it a break for a couple days... i know its hard, but it seems like he needs it... and then you might want to use lube...

I once had sex for the first time with one particular woman and as soon as I got in there it felt like someone had poured acid on my pride and glory. I put it down to her having an 'acid box' but I never did get to the bottom of it. It's never happened since then.
