Hey guys... I am on spring break right now and so I am wearing my bikini like every day and i am having A LOT of trouble keeping my bikini area clean of hair. Everytime i shave down there i get red bumps and ingrown hairs... (I have read a lot of sites and made sure to take all of the tips)... I try to do a really good job! I look around at other women and the beach and the vast majority of them, you cant even tell that they used to have hair there and they are so confident walking around in a bikini... when i am in it i feel self concisous and worry that everyone can see the red dots and i am pretty pale so i worry that they can kinda see the hair stubble... now i know that many women get a bikini wax before wearing a bathing suit but at pool parties and stuff i see my friends who i know shave and you cant tell on them either... i am so tired of being self concious about this area!!! i really need help?

a lot of the problem is that i am going to the beach several days in a row and so i have to keep the area shaved... shaving it more than one day in a row irritates it even more....

please help me!!! thanks so much!

just thought I would let you know that I did try a bikini wax for the summer and it is much better so far! (i have only had it for like 4 days) there are a few red dots but nothing as bad as shaving let's just hope it doesn't get worse when they start to grow back!

also, just on this topic i have another question:

How far does pubic hair usually grow outside of the bikini area? mine grows like an inch onto my leg! is this normal? (when I say this I mean like what isn't covered by a normal pair of underwear)

BigSis agony auntHey Sarah, welcome back.

Here's part of the price list from where I go, some places vary, but only slightly, obviously you're in The States ~ so I don't know your prices, but here's ours;

Bikini Line..........From £5.00

1/2 Leg...................£10.00

Full Leg + Bikini Line....£20.00

Full Leg..................£17.00

The hair grows back much much slower than if you were to shave, and doesn't grow back prickly or so thick.

I have very dark, very thick hair and it takes a good 3-4 weeks before it starts to show again. In those 3-4 weeks I probably would have gone through about a dozen lady razors.

Eventually the hair you're having waxed does thin down a lot in time and will grow back softer and finer. I go about once a month. So much less hassle than shaving.

Wax away babe, but remember what I said in my previous message, exfoliate around the area when washing down there because it prevents ingrowing hairs and you wont have those unsightly bumps and spots, and leaves your skin 'baby smooth'.....because you're worth it.

: )

Happy holidays hon,

isn't waxing kind of expensive though? how much does it cost on average to get a wax? also if I were to wax during the summer but then not during the winter.. would it get thick again over the winter?

BigSis agony auntSarah...Find a salon and get it waxed. I used to shave the sides but since plucking (no pun intended there)..up the courage to get the sides waxed ~ i'd never used a razor there again.

With shaving, by the next day there is stubble, quite often you get ingrowing hairs and some spots which can be quite unsightly.

With waxing, the hair is pulled out from well below the skin surface, taking it much longer to grow out...and when it does start to grow...which can take weeks, it grows back softer and not stubbly. You never get those ingrowing hairs which causes the spots.

Something to remember, when washing down there, use an exfoliating glove or sponge over the waxed area to prevent the odd ingrowth of hair.

Over a period of time the hair will become finer and if you're lucky, the hair may never grow back. I swear by it now. You'll never want to shave there again.

So whether you want the 'landing strip' or just a plain 'short front and sides' waxing is by far the best. (painful ~ but the best).

You go girl...you know it makes sense.
