Question - (4 November 2010) 4 Answers - (Newest, 4 November 2010)
A female United Kingdom age 51-59, anonymous writes:

I met this guy on a night out last Saturday, my friends informed me that he kept 'checking me out' i'd just arrived at the pub as he had with his friends. He then came upto me knelt down besides me in front of my friends and told me that he liked me, i spent the rest of the evening with him drinking and chatting and although his convervation was very suggestive i made it quite clear that i was not going to sleep with him and after a lovely evening together i went home with my friends, i then received roughly 40 texts from him he did say as well that he'd an excellent night, i felt comfortable enough at this point to text him and ask him whether he would like to keep in touch to which he replied yes but for me not to be offended if he didn't respond to my texts straight away as he was going to be busy until xmas, which was something he'd mentioned the night previous. Although he was very full on and the fact he lives about an hour away from me i liked this guy, i responded to that text then sent him one more (a joke text) he has not responded to either, what should i do now, i'm reluctant to send another text or phone him and i'm not into playing mind games, and the other question is do guys ever grow up he was 43, i'm confused to say the least, can anyone advise.....

tennisstar88 agony auntSo it might be Jan 1st 2011 before he gets back to you? If he's into you an appropriate 3 day window without texting or calling is the norm. Unless, you're too bust being blown up in Afghanistan, going on a mission in a foreign country and there doesn't seem to be a phone tower in the Amazon..then he has 5 min to text you a "Hey, how are you?". It makes absolutely no sense to send you 40 texts that night..then not to even respond to your joke that you sent him the next day. I suppose he's "busy".

I wouldn't send him another text, or phone him...that would make you look needy or pushy. You sent him a text now it's his turn. Give him a max of 3 days, starting today..and if he doesn't respond then oh well, let it be. You don't know him anyways, neither is he going to give you the chance to.

A 43 year old who still frequents the bar/pub scene as soon as he gets off at 5 and goes home at 12 Mon-Fri and longer on the weekends who also plays with women's minds..doesn't sound very grown up to me.

CindyCares agony aunt Busy until Xmas ?... Too busy for sending you a line of text ? ... Who is this guy, Barack Obama ? Only a really big shot could be SO busy.

I think he was interested in closing the deal, so to speak, right away ; since that could not be accomplished, his ardour has cooled down.

I'd just stop any further contact and let it go.

In answer to your 2nd question, alas SOME guys will never grow up.

Denise32 agony auntWeelll......it was an extremely casual way you met this man, and as you said, he told you he was going to be busy from now until Christmas. Before that, though he clearly was trying to get you to agree to having sex with him, which you said you were not about to do.

In my humble opinion, your best bet is to let it go and not give him another thought. I don't see any good coming out of further contact with this one, given what he wants and you don't.

Surely there's better places to meet more compatible men.....
