smoking decreases its effectiveness significantly, and increases risks of cancer.
drinking decreases effectiveness but not by much. combined with smoking and incorrect usage however will make a difference.
skipping days makes things a little whacky and lowers effectiveness.

I have been on the pill for over a year and my bf and i have sex a lot as you can say and yeah i haven't been pregnent so as you see you have nothing to be worried about unless she is takin them everyday at the same time and then your good to go

the pill is almost 100% effective if used correctly. thing is, it has to be used and cannot be missed. i find myself in a situation where my ex-girlfriend is pregnant, supposedly by me, when she had claimed to be on the pill. just be careful. doubleing up on contraception is the best way to go. if you dont want to use a condom, use a spermicidal libricant, or an insert or something like that. or get her on a type of birth control that doesnt require daily attention, like the patch, or the ring, or even and IUD depending on how serious you guys are. i made the mistake of trusting my then girlfriend to be responsible... had i known i would have GLADLY fronted the $400 for an IUD. good luck

hi there, the pill if taken corectly is 99% effective. so there is less than a onepercent chance of her getting pregnant. however there is always the chance she may miss one. never have sex if one is missed for at least 7 days after the missed pill. As long as she follows the instructions you should be fine. xxx
