If you want to lighten it up, you could attach a small loveheart-shaped chocolate to the card. With a message inside that you hope they don't take too long to be able to eat it.

Id send him any kind of flowers, or any gift. Its always the gesture that counts anyways. My best wishes to your BF. I hope everything turns out well for him.

My fella always says, "why doesn't anybody give guys flowers? They're a nice gesture, they smell nice, they're good to look at...". So why not? If that's the way you'd like to brighten up his room, I think that's a great idea. Other good ideas might be things like crosswords, a deck of cards, magazines, books, stuff he can DO. I suspect that he'll be bored out of his skull. So, maybe think up something to give him that'll take up some time?
You're very sweet. Good luck!

A cute lil card or a gag gift to make him laugh. I have one of those silly little key chain toys that has the weirdest, most hysterical laugh when you squeeze it and it cracks me up! (CVS or Walgreens) If a portable dvd player, get him a guy flick you know he'll love. Or make a cute lil dvd of you two together. Or a special blanket just to have something warm he can snuggle into and think of you (spray some of your perfume on it). You can also bring him a home-cooked meal since hospital food sucks :p If hes a reader, grab a new book from his favorite genre. But, you can also send an artfully prepared basket of fruits..there's a company that does it beautifully! Argh...the name is something arrangements. Google: fruit arrangements and see if you find it. I hope he has a good hospital stay! Hope I helped a lil..
