In this saying you are "tied" because of marriage but "bound" by love. Divorce is a common thing these days. As a practicing Catholic, I personally think to common. The saying it is saying that marriage is the commitment that completely seals the deal. To be honest, this saying does not only apply to marriage. The tie can also be just something that happens in which the two people involved know that they want to be with eachother forever! I hope that helps you!~bridget
