Well, there are many forms of birthcontrol... some BCs work by helping to prevent egg implantation in the uterus. Some like progesterone mimic how the body would respond if the woman was pregnant. Plan B is more towards expelling anything that may have already implanted in the uterus. This can be a very delicate subject to some, I would advice you look up birth control on webmd.com to get some good knowledge on each form. :-)

Are you refering to the birth control pill? the pill(the hormones contained inside) sends a message to the brain and tells it that you are pregnant(because of all these hormones that you now added to you system, which a pregnancy would also make)so the brain will not then send a signal to your ovaries to release an egg each month......no egg=no pregnancy, the period you do get on the pill is not a real period its just...blood. the morning after pill will actually cause your body to miscarry if you got pregnant and abortion obviously is a decision you made to terminate the pregnancy(kill the baby)
i hope that helps out:)
