Yes and not. I think it is true that insecure, low self esteem women feel exceedingly gratified and reassured if they can snatch up someone "prestigious" as for his status, popularity, social rank etc. because in this way they get by proxy what they feel they cannot get by themselves. Like, I am worth nothing, but if my mate is worth a lot in the eyes of the word-that means I must be worth something too.
A high self esteem woman is much more oblivious to social pressures and constraints, and much more apt to choose
solely based on her own tastes and preferences. In practice, though, what happens is that, precisely because she has a high self esteem and a clear sense of her standards and of what she can and deserve to get as a mate- it is very difficult she will just take up with the pizza delivery boy just because he is strong and masculine .

I guess it's too simple to say it's just low self-esteem women who think about men that way vs the way high self-esteem women do. I would categorise myself as high-ish self esteem and my man is very manly and masculine but also has a teddy bear soft centre which was attracted me to him.
Not sure if this answers your question??
