I was speaking to a guy I like but I didn't think he liked me back so I made a joke about setting him up with a friend of mine and he said "no you would be better but the moon is not blue". I asked him what he meant by the moon is not blue but he wouldn't tell me. Does anyone know what this saying means? Thanks Reply to this Question Share |

Once in a blue moon.... hmmm...
"no you would be better but the moon is not blue"
hmmm I guess it depends on the punctuation
you: hey i think you should go out with sally
him; NO, YOU would be better but the moon is not blue
you: Hey I think you should go out with sally
him: no you, would be better but the moon is not blue
so either he is saying you would be the better choice but it won't happen since a blue moon is a rare event
or
he's saying NO WAY YOU I wouldn't date HER and it has nothing to do with you.
SINCE you like him... ask him to go out with YOU and see what he says.

Things which happen once in a blue moon are things which only happen very exceptionally. So I guess he means he 'd like to be with you but he feels that it's not going to happen, like you are out of his league or something.

"Only happens once in a blue moon" is an expression my dad uses in situations such as "so and so only turns up once in a blue moon" or "once in a blue moon i miss all the heavy trafic"
The fact that this lad said "no you would be better..." says that, IMO, he likes you but doesnt think he has much chance of getting togehter with you!

I think he was talking crap trying to make himself look more intellectual than he is! But then I'm sure I come out with the odd phrase that means nothing, I hope people don't google everything I say lol!

Dear OP,
I have no idea. I even googled it and didn't find anything. The only explanation I found that a blue moon means, when there's two full moons in one month.
And that "Once in a blue moon means occationaly or "Every now and then", because blue moons are rare.
So, maybe he meant that he would like YOu but for some reason he thinks it's just an illusion and it's not going to happen anyway. Or that the time isn't right. But it sounds as if he likes you.
Maybe you should be a bit more clear about your interest. How can HE know that you like him if you tell him jokes about going to set him up with a friend?
Good luck.

But I don't understand the part "You would be better" how would you be better if he hooked up with your friend, considering you like him?
Sorry OP but the question is very difficult to answer, you should've pushed him for an answer... anyway do give us a feedback, Now I'm curious too.
