 Ask her about herself. Lots of open-ended questions. What did she do this weekend? Did she have fun? How are her family? Does she get along with them well?
If her replies are short or non-committal then forget it now - chances are she's either vapid or uninterested. Anyone with half a clue can stitch-together, "yeah, it was great! what did you do? oh, poor you, I hate it when that happens!"
If you really like her, and she's a dull knife then just one time try saying "hey, I'm trying to talk to you 'cause I kinda think you're hot; you're not answering so I guess I should forget it, huh?" This gives her the chance to put you down honestly & gently, or save her / your chances before you move on to greener pastures.
