Was a bit shocked when I bought my new friends [two girls] at uni, a cute little dessert back from the canteen, for one of them to say 'aw, you're so sweet' and then 'I think I love you, I'm not even joking' [straight faced]. The other happens to be gay so couldn't really join in [if this was a simple joke]. Was this a sign that she actually likes me? I really like her

ben345 is verified as being by the original poster of the questionI get the impression she finds me sweet and cheesy, so makes these constant jokes. I guess I just need to make a gesture rather than think about it too much

I agree with YouWish. I think you are reading more into it then what's really happening.
However, next time be faster on your feet and ask her out.

Hmmm....I think you're waiting to hear what you want to hear, and in this case, it may be banter on her side. Whether she likes you or not isn't clear from that exchange.
If you like her, then ask her out! Love is a risk, and sometimes, you just have to take the leap of faith without being sure.
Ask her out!
