 I understand what you were trying to say. If someone said that to me, I would hear "why am I so comfortable with you?". If your boyfriend gets upset, just explain to him what you really meant.
I'll bet he didn't read too much into it. He was probably thinking how nice it was to be hugging you in the first place!

Ok. As a guy, I know basically what he's thinking. The first thing that went thru his head after you said that was probably a sense of pride. He'd be glad that you think that and happy that you feel comfortable and even safe in his arms. Don't worry about it.

 I doubt he's even thinking about it! If he mentions it just say you felt comfortable hugging him, he doesn't have to know what you were thinking! Relax he doesn't need to know! :-)
