I agree with the others and think he is talking about the background, but you could always say, "Yes. Egypt is a beautiful place." And see if he says "Actually, I meant you." Or agrees with you. That could work.

reader, anonymous, writes (1 April 2008): I think he was talking about Egypt being beautiful...and your pictures were nice....otherwise he would have said those were lovely pictures of you....but that would have been a bit weird of him to say that when these were pictures of the places you went to see on your trip...OK?
