Underwire bras have left brown marks under my breasts, any suggestions on how I can remove the marks?

I am very slim and have very big breasts. I have always ensured I wore correct bras, even when sleeping at times to help with good posture and prevent sagging etc. My boobs are fine because of it and have no sagging, back problems etc. However, because I have worn underwire bras, under my breasts they have left very dark brown marks where the underwire would rest. I have since stopped wearing underwire bras over a year now but the marks are still there and I really dont know what to do to get them to go away. It looks as though I have had surgery scars or something right around my breasts. I wonder if anyone has had an experience with this or any suggestions on how I can possibly try to get rid of these?

And before anyone wants to advice me to be happy with who I am and just accept it and be happy etc etc....I AM happy with who I am, I am not depressed or anything! I just dont like these unsightly marks so anyone with useful tips will be much appreciated. Thanks!

I have the same problem, 32GG and need industrial strength bras. I will be trying the old remedy of lemon juice and see if that works.

1. Lemon Juice

Put some fresh lemon juice on a cotton ball and rub it directly on the affected skin area.

Allow it to dry and then wash it off with plain water.

Continue applying this dark spot removal home remedy for at least two weeks to get the desired result.

Hello,

I have had a similar problem with dark marks from bras that dug into my shoulders as well as the area under my breast that you described. I believe that I was wearing a bra that did not provide adequate support.

I used products rich in Cocoa Butter and eventually had very good results. I recommmend you wash with a product called 'African Black Soap'. There are many varieties but just get the basic one with Cocoa Butter. I also used a good old fashioned Cocoa Butter stick twice a day and Palmer's Cocoa Butter lotion all over.

I was delighted to see the marks fade and experience an all over glow. Give it about 4-6 weeks to fade completely

Last bit of advice - ignore silly people on here and don't bother to dignify their stupid comments with a reply.

I wish you the best.

Can't help with the existing brown marks, but you could try ditching the bra to stop this happening again. :^)

Did you think I was saying you need to wash when I said to try a good scrub?

I wasn't, I just meant that a really good exfoliate might bring blood to the surface, get rid of any dead skin cells that are getting discoloured, and open up your pores.

Scrubbing and exfoliating is great for skin it can shift celulite and get any build up of toxins moving again.

Good Luck!! xx

I have this problem with marks from the bra too. I think vitamin E might help and you could try tea tree oil as well. It may be a bit of a callous or something like that.

Ignore antipubesuk. Don't encourage trolls.

BigSis agony auntJust a short message for 'Antipubesuk'...our question asker is absolutely right, your comment was unnecessary and I'm sure she would accept nothing other than an apology from you.

****

Okay....Vitamin E is about the best ingredient, it helps tone and repair the skin, there are lots of moisturising creams and toners from different manufacturers, you can only but try and see how you get on.

Or...

Get some advice from a dermatologist, but first ask your GP to set up an appointment for you, just tell him it's really getting you down, and you're worried about the marks being permanent, and perhaps your Doctor can arrange a quickie with him/her. {Appointment, that is}

: )

Best of luck.

For that person who suggested I need to wash and am dirty, there is no need for such a horrid remark! I do shower properly every day and for your informations scars are NOT a result of poor hygiene!!! This is a forum for people with problems looking for advice and if you have to make derogatory offensive remarks it is perhaps best to not be on a site like this! Thanks!

Here I would like to suggest the use of dove or parmolive or even carbolic theses are all good for cleaning your skin. There is no need for dirt in this day of plentiful water........Its not the work of Satan u know!!

Having read your follow up I think you have been given some good advice, but since you say you haven't tried anything yet, then perhaps just a really good exfoliate / scrub might help?

The other answers are good so try them too.

Good Luck!! xx

spanglegirl agony auntHiya,

Try some Bio-oil you can get it in boots and most other chemists. It helps to fade scars, stretch marks and skin discolouration. Hope this helps.

Hi everyone, thanks for your help and tips thus far. Just wanted to clear up a few things.

Firstly for people saying I do not have to wear a bra to sleep or the breasts do not need support whilst sleeping: I am a 30G and unless you have had experience with this size breasts then trust me when I say I need to wear a bra to sleep! My sister who is the same size as me, her boobs sagged terribly by the time she was 17 & she has terrible back pains - mine are still very pert and upright, I have no back pains or breast pains etc...I mean I do not wear a bra 24/7 and I do allow my skin to "breathe" but trust me there is great sense to what I am saying about having wear a bra as much as I do; no questions or doubts about that!

Yes I have been fitted properly and am wearing the right size bra.

The marks are not under the natural folds of the skin, but a bit further down a few cm - ie where the underwire would have lay.

I havent actually tried anything. I thought the marks were caused by the underwire pressing against the skin, I mean most women can relate to taking off their bra and having a small mark where the underwire, bra straps etc may have been against their skin, but normally it goes away after an hour or whatever. SO I thought by stopping wearing underwire bra it would go away also on its own - but it never did :(

But over a year on and the marks are still there. I havent tried anything other than assuming they would go away but of course over a year on and they are still there or havent even faded :(

Please keep advice coming. Many thanks!

BigSis agony auntTypical of you Uncle Phil 'without having a close look' indeed!

Heh heh...

Yeah, don't try to rub it off too hard as you may cause permanent marking. Could it be that your bra is too tight? And wearing it in bed while sleeping is not very healthy either, it may be restricting your blood flow a little.

I wear underwire bras too, and I have had those marks before, but they did fade in time.

A reader, anonymous, writes (10 September 2008):

I can't say without having a close look, but perhaps the marks were not caused by the wire in the bras but the natural folds in your skin?

If you sleep in your bra the underside of your breasts is bound to sweat a bit, and maybe that's what's causing the discolouration of your skin?

A male reader, harshbutfair United Kingdom +, writes (10 September 2008):

harshbutfair agony auntIt may be scar tissue caused by rubbing/pressure of your underwired bra. Please don't try to "rub" them off or use anything harsh on them. See your doctor who may be able to give you some advice.

You should really never wear a bra when sleeping. The breasts don't need support when you're laying down and as you've found, the bra can cause problems rather than help at those times.

A female reader, sugar_sugar United States +, writes (10 September 2008):

sugar_sugar agony auntHey there

I'm not entirely sure if this will specifically help your problem as I've never encountered it myself but I know that rosehip oil is supposed to be wonderful for removing marks/scars of all varieties, as is calendula cream or palmers cocoa butter.

If that fails perhaps see a dermatologist?
