A female reader, TasteofIndia United States +, writes (21 March 2011):

TasteofIndia agony auntYou know what I like about you already? You condensed your entire problem into one sentence. You must be the world's best thesis statement writer.

Does this happen when you two are together in person, or is it just the phone? I'm assuming just the phone. Some people just aren't made for the phone. My fella and I are kinda like you and your guy. He's always told me that he hated the phone, and it's true. He sucks at it. So, I've learned to pretty much stay positive when chatting via phone, and to try and keep our conversations shorter. The trouble usually starts when we've said the immediate conversation at hand (how are you, whatcha doing, anything cool happen?), and now we search for conversation. I can talk with my girlfriends for hours about nothing. The fella? NOT SO MUCH.

So don't expect your guy to be able to stay on the phone for awhile just talking for hours. After a certain amount of time in a relationship it's hard to keep doing that without running out of conversation and beginning to topic wander. Save the important things for face-to-face.

It sounds like you guys just clash on the phone. It's normal, it's okay. You just have to be able to step outside yourselves and figure out how to avoid the catastrophe of the phone! Good luck, sweet!
