Well it's cause about an hour ago, I decided I was going to go to bed, but before I decided to go to bed, I decided to look inside my mouth, cause it had been bothering me all day, like a really bad cold or something. When I looked in the mirror what I had discovered is my mouth looking like it's pretty much CAVED in! My glands are swollen to the size of balloons. I'm drinking tons of water. My mom won't be up for another couple of hours for work, so i'm hoping this question will be accepted soon, and somebody could give me some tips on how to reduce the swelling or ease the pain until I can get this checked out.It looks like I have tonsilities, or maybe mono?Anyways, help! It doesn't sound silly, but you shouldn't worry that much! Your body is quite good at keeping your airway clear and warning you fairly rapidly of any problems even if you're asleep. If you are able to swallow water then it's nothing to be very concerned about - but it does need a visit to the doctor sooner rather than later. The streptococcus bacteria that usually cause swollen tonsils are persistent little blighters once they get going. You have them in your throat all the time, and it's usually when you're a bit run down that they manage to multiply into a real problem like this - and they need a good kicking, usually from antibiotics, to get their numbers back to a normal level. (Of course it might be something else, but that's the most likely cause and a doctor will be able to confirm it fairly rapidly when you see him). If the swelling is so bad or gets so bad that you're having real problems breathing then call an ambulance right away.

dangerouslove. is verified as being by the original poster of the questionUnfortuantly, I have no aspirin or advil or anything of the sort. I took the last two this morning for the headache I woke up with. But thanks for the suggestions so far, anymore advils? I am starting to feel weak from the lack of sleep I am catching. but I don't really want to go to sleep cause well .. I am kind of afraid to die? if that sounds silly.

A throat infection like you describe usually needs antibiotics.
Gargling with soluble aspirin if you've got some can help to take the pain away and can reduce the swelling, but don't do it if there's any risk you're allergic to aspirin AND make sure you read the details to make sure you're only taking the right dosage (usually it's two aspirin dissolved in a little water - don't dilute it too much otherwise the gargling becomes ineffective).

Try ice cream or some kind of throat lozenge. There is not a lot else you can do until you know what the problem is. Painkillers might help or an anti inflammatory x
