The best way to win a fight is to talk your way out of it and walk away. He'll meet someone else to fight, let them get hurt go to hospital or jail.
We are who we are when we drink, we just lose our inhibitions. You sound like you drink to get langers and to the point where you've no longer got any control it's better if you don't drink if that's what you do.

Leave him to it. Start on revenge vendettas and you'll get arrested.

Well, you've already made two mature decisions in this paragraph. Giving up drinking and partying is great! Not letting some asshole pick a fight with you is even better! The guy's face is not worth you breaking your fist on.
Good luck in continuing to move forward maturely! And you'll like your Sunday mornings with no hangover. :)
