Ok so it's my prom night in less than a week now, and I'm so stuck on what make up to use, I have a red fishtail dress which has a lot of detail on my left side, so I'm having my hair curled to my right side where my fringe also is. I don't know wether to have pale lips (pink, nude I don't know) and a smokey dramatic eye but don't know which colours. Or have a neutral eye with bright red lipstick?Or both? I know you're not supposed to have both but my mum thinks I should but I don't want to look like a clown! But I love my eyes done up and standing out I also love my red lipstick. Some people also say your not supposed to wear red lipstick with a red dress others say its nice. I'm usually really good at doing my own make up but it's prom night and I want it to be perfect, so can anyone give me some advise would be much appreciated. Thankyou! Reply to this Question Share |

Lavender eyes look gorgeous with a red dress. Try a compact from Lancome. Highlight the inner corners of your eyes with a shimmery light purple. Dust the second lightest shade all over your lids and contour the outer corners of your eyes with the third color. Then line your eyes with the darkest purple. Then define your eyes with black eyeliner and mascara. Don't forget a rosy blush, light lips, and a good foundation and powder!

You could either do a basic gray smokey eye or a gold smokey eye would also be gorgeous. Doing a smokey eye PLUS red lips is overkill though. Like you said, you don't want to look like a clown. It depends which feature you want to play up more. My suggestion would either be:
Gold or silver smokey eye and then use the red lipstick as a "stain" by putting on some clear chapstick and then using your finger to dab the red lipstick over it to give a very sheer color.
The gold or silver smokey eye (depending on whether you're warm or cool toned) is really easy. Nyx sells palettes for very cheap in a bronze smokey look or a plain gray/silver smokey look, and you can buy cheap blending brushes (VERY important for a good smokey eye).
Or
Do liquid eyeliner on your top lashes and use eyeliner on your waterline (tightlining), make it subtle, no smoking it out or making it thick, then use just one color of either sheer gold or silver on your whole lid and a lighter highlight in the inner corner and under your brow.
I think nude lips and a red dress would look odd. Even if the nude color doesn't normally wash you out, the red plus nude probably will.
Also throw in some realistic false eyelashes since it's nighttime.

Hey there Rebeccaa!Your dress sounds beautiful and, as every girl knows, the way to make or break an outfit is all in the details.Red dress + red lips will immediately scream Dallas tart (and I don't mean strawberry). You are one step away from putting on your shoulder pads and pushing someone down a flight of stairs! Red lips have a time and a place and, trust me, it's not with a beautiful, red, fishtail gown with some bling. Teaming the two together would take the focus away from the look as a whole as people wouldn't know where to look first! So let us go for a delicate smokey eye!Start with your base. Your gonna be party to alot of pictures and flash photography so stick to a Matte foundation with NO SPF (as the pigments are highly reflective and will wash you out)With your eyes, we'll start from the top and work our way down! Eyebrows frame the face so make sure they are groomed and lightly defined with an eyebrow pencil. (Key things to remember when doing this is to keep your arches soft because that dress is gonna be loud. AND your eyebrows are not twins, they're sisters. So try and stick with their natural contour and don't try to make them symmetrical)Moving onto your lids: I would try to create an earthy smokey eye with warm browns. Think rusts, chocolates and sandstones. Keep the shadows matte but dab a little shimmery white-gold into the inner corner (This will make your eyes pop and give them extra sparkle and glamour). Wing out that liquid liner a little on the top lid for some added vintage flair. One thing I always like to remind folk is NOT to overdo the eyeliner on your bottom lid. Only bring it 3/4s of the way along your waterline and then blend it a little to soften the look (set it with a bit of black shadow on top so it lasts most of the night!) And NEVER under estimate lashes. Girls Aloud Kimberly by Eylure, in my opinion, combine the right amount of softness and glamour.Put a soft peachy pink on the apples of your cheeks and choose a pink toned, nude lipstick: Rimmel Kate Spring Collection in Shade 16 (Not being paid for that recommendation)Top that with a low-to-no sparkle nude gloss:I recommend ( again, I'm not being paid for it, Lol) Urban Decay pocket Rocket in the colour Max.Now, I know that's a little long but I hope I helped...even if I was just a little too opinionated....I DIDN'T GET TO GO TO MY PROM! :-Pxxx
