Question - (29 January 2009) 6 Answers - (Newest, 1 February 2009)
A female United Kingdom age 30-35, anonymous writes:

Since I was young I've been having these terrible headaches which sometimes lead on to migranes, I've tried glassess twice, been to the doctors etc, even been in hospital at one stage they were so bad.

They stopped for a while but the headaches are worse now and I have a terible cramp kinda feeling in the back of my head as well but each time I try to explain this to a doctor they diagnose it with conjunctivitus or a migrane that will soon pass.

I just want them to have a good look at what's going on in my head or behind my eyes!! but they won't listen. I'm getting worried it could be a tumor or something seirious!! Any suggestions?? Be glad of them.

You need to get an MRI. (x-ray of your brain) You could have a tumor. I've seen a surgery on tv and it was successful. The headaches and pain stopped.

I get really bad headaches too. They used to put my in bed for the day. It was the worst pain I ever felt.

I found that going on the pill did wonders as it was hormones that set them off at certain times of the month.

Try keeping a diary of what you eat and any other factors like long days in front of the computer / tv, bad sleep, certain places you go with flickery lights, periods, AND of course make a note of all your headaches.

Use the Pain scale where 0 is no pain, 1 is like an itch or a niggley feeling, and 10 is so bad you can't focus and you want to scream and cry and pass out.

Once you've done that for a month then go back to the doc and show him that and ask to see a specialist. If they are affecting your life / job / schoolwork then he should take you a bit more seriously.

I doubt it's a tumour as if you have had them for years and it was a tumour you would have had some kind of stroke / death by now.

Good Luck!! xx

Hi, i used to suffer migranes once a month.I realised they would come just before my period. They were so bad it took me a week to get over it as it left me completely exhausted. What i did was a few days before my period i avoided the 5 c's Choclate, coffee, cheese, citrus and chicken.I know it sounds silly but it seemed to work for me.I still get them from time to time, but not as debilatating. You might have to cut these things out of your diet for a while, just to see if it makes a difference.Good luck.Let me know how you get on.I would be intrested to know if it works for you.

A female reader, aunty_rach United Kingdom +, writes (29 January 2009):

there are so many different types of migranes. my mum suffers from a form of migrane which causes her to black out and go numb down one side. at first they thought it was a stroke, but she comes round and regains the feeling down her side. after years of researching it, they agreed it was a form of migrane.

so i would def say it seems like you have a form of a migrane and maybe you should try and see a nurologist for further tests. they may beable to give you something that will stop them. good luck.

lovesalias agony auntHave you been to a specialist? You might request to see a doctor who specializes in matters of your case rather than just a general practicioner. It could be that your nerves are being pinched at the base of your neck which is causing your migranes. Have you ever suffered any kind of whip lash? I really think you should see a specialist if you haven't already. I hope this helps! Good Luck!
