A female United Kingdom age 36-40, anonymous writes:

Hi there,

I'd like some advice about my skin please. I used to have very clear skin when I was younger, I didn't really need to take care of it, it just stayed spot-free all the time. But about 4 years ago I started having the contraceptive injection, but after a while I decided I didn't like it so I stopped having the injection. That's when my skin nightmare began. It must have have messed up my hormones because ever since i came off the injection my skin has never been the same. Ive been struggling with it for 4 years and it makes me feel so down and ugly.

I've tried loads of products to help my skin but nothing seems to work. I started using a harsh cleanser and was too scared to use moisturiser for fear that it would make me break out even more, but my skin became so dry it would crack and flake, and still my complexion would be spotty!! ive been to a dermatologist, but he doesnt seem to help, he didnt tell me what to use on my skin.

Now I've tried to have a proper skin regime as I realised after many years that the dryness was not doing me any good. I use a cleanser, toner and oil free moisturiser but my skin feels greasy all the time now. I'm so confused, I dont know what products I should use because i not sure what my skin type is.

So basically will my skin ever clear up? Will my skin balance out now I'm using a proper skin regime and now its not so dry? What can I do to help it? I seem to get loads of whiteheads (yuk!) should I squeeze them? I used to squeeze all the time, but I've tried not to recently, but they don't go away. What should I do about them?

Please help. Thanks

melanie0083 agony auntyou say having the shot helped them? then maybe you can find out why it did, (maybe the hormones in the shot) and supplement it with something else like hormone pills or something of that nature.
