Since from as a long as I can remember I've always had spots on my vagina, at first I thought it was simply just a shaving rash, but they don't seem to disapear, and before people say anything, I can say for a fact its not a STI or anything of that sort, but I was just generally wondering if anyone had any ideas how to get rid of them? Please be nice about this.. thank you.

We can't tell you what they are or how to get rid of them. You need to go to a gyn or to a dermatologist to see what they are. If they're moles, skin tags or birthmarks you may be able have them removed if you want to.

could just be an ingrown hair from shaving, sometimes this looks a bit different to normal shaving rash, or a blocked pore that has resulted in a pimple like spot. It is always best to be on the safe side, and if it hasn't cleared up, go see the doctor, because you never know.

A female reader, Dorothy Dix Australia +, writes (22 January 2012):

Hi there. When you say around your vagina, are you referring to the outer lips - when the public hair grows?

Or, are you referring to the soft deep pink tissue of the inner lips? The same colour as the lips of your mouth.

Whatever it is, just so long as there are no associated pain or itchy rashes, and no discharge from your vaginal opening that you consider to be abnormal, there might not be a problem at all.

Do they look like freckles that you might have on your nose or cheeks or arms?

I ask this, because you have said they have been there for as long as you can remember. Which seems to indicate they were there from birth. They might be just like a mark on your skin - tiny brown flat spots that aren't raised, nor are they dry and flakey, or crusty.

To know for sure though, the only thing you can do is to go and see your family doctor and let him or her examine you.

It will also put your mind to rest.
