She wasn't using anything at the time.STD's were not the issue they are today. I assume that he didn't want rubber getting in the way.I knew about spermicides but not in the form of a pessary. The only one that I can find on the net now is "encare" (mostly USA).Can anyone tell me what they are likely to have used (in South Africa)? The pharmacists I have asked don't know. She doesn't remember, and I'm still too shy to ask my senior pharmacist. This is not a train smash issue, but I am curious to know what it was.Can any of you older guys, or younger girls assist?

Honeygirl, I'll chech on your suggestion and report bach to all of you.
Use it myself? No way! I'd sooner use a hand grenade.
This is probably just a case of morbid curiosity.
I will now surely ask the senior pharmacist. He'll probably endorse the hand grenade idea.

Why be shy asking the senior pharmacist? He's the one that'll know (or know how to find out) So long as he doesn't think you're wanting to use it, he'll probably enjoy the mental challenge! (You aren't thinking of using it, are you? It really wasn't reliable....)

I used only foam spermicide until my husband's vacetomy and was able to space my three kids at two years apart. But my daughter just told me she's pregnant and she used spermicide AND a condom. So go figure.

Spermicidal foam used along with condoms are more effective birth control than condoms alone. Back in the 70's if she only used spermicide whether it be in tablet or whatever, she was still at risk of pregnancy because they are not very effective at preventing pregnancy on their own use.
