When you eat your food it takes between 20 and 30 hours to actually pass through the body from mouth to the toilet. It has a long journey and travels from your mouth, down the oesophagus into the stomach, hangs around there for a few hours (doing other things) then continues its journey into the small intestine where it starts to digest. This can take about 5 to 6 hours.
Off it goes again and enters the colon for further digestion (which can take between 12-24 hours depending on what was eaten) before defecation. When you go to the loo you are passing food from the day before, NOT the food you have actually eaten.
Some people find they go to the toilet once they drink something in the morning, others (like yourself) after they've eaten something so it's quite normal that you feel you need to go after eating food.
