I am a student and I have a crush (a major crush) on my english teacher. He knows I'm a good student and all, but he is never frank with me. I want him to like me and treat me as his favourite student. What can I do?

He is your TEACHER...hired by the school system to teach English and ONLY English.

If he got involved with you...he would be Fired and his reputation and career would be totally ruined.

Your need to be "favourite" stems from somewhere else.

It is not necessary to be a favourite student.

Perhaps you long to be favourite in someone else's life & they are ignoring you, so you have transferred your attention & affections to your teacher.

The only thing necessary is to learn English, pass your grades and Graduate.

When you complete your education, some day you will find a special man who adores you & will be his FAVOURITE.

Be patient sweetie...the right guy is out there !

All the best,

Rebecca Batchelor agony auntTo be a little more sympathetic than the answer below, I would say that you need to redirect your attention elsewhere.

It is correct to say that a relationship between a teacher and student is wrong and the teacher would be risking his job as well as the possibility of legal action against him, particularly if you are underage, but crushes do happen a lot between teachers and students. This is because you look up to him and have much time to consider him as he teaches you. I'm afraid it is all part of growing up and is like a trial run for the real thing. But it isn't the real thing, it is simply you dreaming about what you would like to happen. He can't and shouldn't compromise his powerful position.

Apart from trying to concentrate on your studies, how about looking at guys more your own age? Okay, they may not seem as mature but just having a few friends that are male will be good for you.

Put your thoughts into perspective. You can't have a relationship with this teacher so it really is pointless trying to get his undivided attention. Realise this and start to notice other people such as your friends more.

Good luck.

A female reader, anonymous, writes (4 July 2005):

You're not going to like this answer... but to be his favourite student, you're going to have to behave like a student and not a silly paramour!

Any teacher who would consider a fling with a student (and possibly and underage student at that), would be risking his entire career, and a jail term. It's also completely unethical because of the power imbalance between you.

Your best bet is to stop dreaming. Realise that you will NEVER have a relationship with your teacher and start putting all that wasted effort into your studies. In the long term, you'll thank yourself for it.
