Size matters...is it safe for me to buy condoms before I leave?

A female United States age 30-35, anonymous writes:

Okay, this might sound ridiculous, but I'd rather be safe than sorry...

I'm going to visit my LDR who lives overseas in 2 weeks, for 3 months. I'm 18 and his 18th birthday is the day after I arrive...you get the idea.

For the sake of cost efficiency and buying a respectable, reliable brand, I would like to buy a quantity condoms before I leave. Where I'm going, it's actually hard to even find condoms due to some ongoing controversies--I'm not kidding. A few weeks back, my LDR had to go to the country's main city--6 hours from his town--to even buy a few just for the sake of experimentation, and the typical Trojan, Durex, and Lifestyles brands weren't available. If we bought condoms there we'd be stuck using some brand I've never heard of before and spending a bit of cash.

So, yeah, I'd rather come prepared.

There's one problem: I don't know just how big (or small) my guy is. I mean, I want to guess that he's on the smaller side seeing as he's about to turn 18, and he is just now barely beginning to grow facial hair, for example (i.e. he's still going through puberty and growing up in general), but I really don't know. And, as comfortable as I am with him, I'd feel pretty weird if I called him and was like, "hey, do me a favor. Unzip and jack off for a bit and then measure your junk and send me your measurements. I have to buy condoms."

Question: will the size of his junk likely make a huge difference in whether or not whichever condoms I [were to] buy fit him alright? I see reviews all the time with statements like, "it's too snug; it's too short."

Nevertheless, I'm kinda worried I might have even the opposite problem--do you think it would be a safe bet for me to buy a stash of condoms now, or is it likely that we need to stick to his country's brands and find one that fits that way?

Thoughts?

Thanks!

Honeypie agony auntOr maybe just buy some in different sizes :) But don't offer him the "hung like a horse" ones unless he tells you the mediums are too small ;)

A reader, anonymous, writes (4 January 2010):

I think you should totally ask him to measure himself for you. It would probably make him feel great to know you're thinking of him like that and planning ahead. I mean, you're going to be seeing it in 2 months anyway, what's there to be uncomfortable about? If you do, just make sure you're complimentive about whatever he tells you. Guys tend to get insecure about their size.

Either way, no it doesn't make a huge difference, unless hes abnormally small or abnormally big, which isn't likely. Just normal condoms will do. If you guys need more, or better fitting ones, you can buy some when you're with him.

He's probably about average sized, so just take normal condoms. Generally, if used correctly there should be no problems.
