Expressions like 'hurt' and 'ripping hymens' (!!) are a bit unnecessarily .. if you are fully in the mood it will be uncomfortable but nowhere near what people might suggest. Also, actually having intercourse is a totally unfamiliar sensation. If you're not aroused I'd guess it will be painful and much more sore. Relax, there's no need to barge into sex - enjoy lots of petting first and that will make intercourse easier, less painful and less of a big deal.

And yes, you can have sex without lube. It all depends on how wet you get. Mind you, if you get too wet, it numbs the effect of a penis rubbing inside of you.

reader, anonymous, writes (17 October 2006): u dont need to be preped to have sex for the first time. u just need to know how to protect urself. make sure he is using a condom, u can use ky to help decrease the friction, but its still going to hurt. know that once u start having sex u need to see ur doc reguarly for pap testing, to screen for hpv, and what not. but if u have questions and would like to see a sexual health doc, then go. there is nothing wrong with that
