 If you think he likes you and you like to then go for it. Like CaringGuy said, you have to take a risk sometimes. The more confident you feel about his answer the better. If you think he's too shy to ask you even if he did like you, then you might never get the chance. If you're feeling brave, go for it.

Sometimes you have to take a chance. This is the time. If you think he likes you, and you really like him, then you should tell him. The only way to be sure is to ask him how he feels. If he says yes, then well done. If he says no, then he's not the guy for you. But you won't know unless you speak to him, so be brave.

 My advice too you is to, stay friends. i think that if this boy really likes you he'll ask you himself but you have too give him time, if your not sure of his answer don't ask just stay friends because from what i understood of your letter you are great friends and i wouldn't run something like that.
