YummyMummy agony auntI would ask the hairdresser if that style will suit you. If they say no then it might be time for a rethink. I wanted y hair cut short and my sister who has just qualified as a hair dresser said it wouldn't suit me either. I now have my hair in a shoulder length style with loads of layers.

I wouldn't go behind your mum's back and get it cut short. Try sitting down with her and explaining you are going to talk to the hair dresser about if the short style will suit you and if you get it done and it is too short it will always grow out again. Explain you want to try something different.

BEEN THERE DONE IT agony auntWell babes,

Your mum sees you as her little girl and I can't say I blame her for that because kids grow up so fast now a days, why don't you sit down with your mum tell her you understand her fears incase it goes wrong but would love her to help you find the right hairdressers so it can be done properly....

Tell your mum you understand that she would love your hair to be long but you would like to try something differnet and you are growing up a bit now and would like to have your own mind and hey if its not what you want when its done it wont take long to grow agin would it.....

Try not to be hard on ya mum babes she loves you and doesn't want it to go wrong, and your her little girl now matter how old you get....

Good luck babes,

Love

Donna xx

DrPsych agony auntIt is normal to be developing your own tastes in hair and fashion at your age. My advice is to ask around to find someone who does a really good job with those designer short cuts as you don't want to end up sheep sheered do you? I am sure there in more than 1 hairdresser where you are. You should get a consultation from them to ask their opinion on your hair. On this website you can upload a photo of yourself and play around with different hairstyles free of charge:

A male reader, kenny United Kingdom +, writes (4 August 2007):

kenny agony auntYour Mum is just giving you her opinion, as in she thinks this short hair cut won't suit you. I don't think she is saying no to you getting it done, you have probably been growing your hair for years and she dosen't want you to do something you will regret if you don't like it.

At the end of the day if you diden't like it hair always grows back anyway.

All the best x
