He gave me some advice regarding an accident I was in, and as a result I've come into some money (over $800), which will really help me out with some bills, altho he says I should treat myself to something with the money. Should I get him or make him some sort of (small) gift to thank him for his advice, which really helped me?

A small gift is always considerate - even just a really thoughtful card will do the trick. Use the rest to pay off bills!
