While I appreciate that you want to make a splashy gesture, there must be another, not-quite-so-risky way to get his attention.
I've done a few round-the-world trips on my own in the last 5 years, so am speaking from experience. I'm not sure what country you're travelling to and from, but a single female traveller can attract a lot of unwanted attention in some countries, and you should be cautious about your safety if you consider this plan.
Perhaps more to the point, as Angel Underneath has pointed out, there's the expense and the ever-present Misjudgement factor. You could end up spending a couple of thousand, and find out -- whoops! -- he didn't really regard you as girlfriend material. Or --sorry-- his mum won't let him out to date girls. Or --gees this is so embarrassing-- he already has a girlfriend he didn't tell you about...
Plus, it's kind of stalkerish.
Why not lash out with some gift that you can have delivered to him with a note from you, indicating your interest? Or write him a smail letter (always much more intimate than electronic comms)? You could even hire a local skywriter to spell out H-E-Y J-I-M W-A-N-T T-O G-E-T A C-O-F-F-E-E S-O-M-E-T-I-M-E-? over his house, for the cost of that RTW airfare!
Have fun, but try to remember what it might be like to receive something that big and/or unexpected too.
Hope it works out for you.

Would emailing not be cheaper!!! Also much less likely not to freak the poor man out if he isn't interested
