A female United States age 30-35, anonymous writes:

About 9 months ago I went to my first rave. To make a long story short it was a life changing experience. I really connected to it. Ever since that day I eat, sleep and breath house music. I have attended quite a few concerts after that and I'm really excited for electric daisy carnival next month. I cant get enough of it. I feel like ever since that night I'm a completely different person. Everything in my life changed in a very positive way, i look at everything with a open mind, I feel very at peace with everything, I'm a much happier individual, and i appreciate things a lot more. i feel like its all I live for, I feel like I was put on this earth to spread the word of house music, and make the world a better place. Sometimes i just wonder if its heathy to be this obsessed with something all I listen too is house music and all i think about it what event I'm going to next. I recently got my second tattoo of music notes that come together and form the shape of a heart because I wanted something on me forever that represented my love for music. Do you think I'm going a little over board with this whole thing? What are your thoughts on it?

Simple, is it having a negative impact on your or anyone else's life? If the answer is 'no' then you're fine.

Actually sounds to me like you've found yourself a beautiful passion that brings you an immense amount of joy.

OP I had much the same thing except my passion was grunge and hard rock.

OP there are few things in life that are more fun and interesting than indulging a passion for music. Gigs can be amazing events, you'll meet some of the coolest, strangest people at festivals and you'll have a life of stories to tell.

OP as someone who has spent 9 months on the scene you know drugs aren't any kind of dark side in the way it's portrayed. Only the legality is truly problematic. Raves are filled mostly with people who are high in some way and they're very friendly and having the time of their lives. You've probably figured out by now that most drug users aren't crazy addicts, they just take a pill or have a smoke when they go to raves or parties with their friends. They treat it like alcohol and they don't let it have any negative impact on their lives.

Take care if you ever decide to dabble in that side of things, they're not for everyone and lots of people let it mess up their lives.

As far as music goes, life would be a very dull thing without it, enjoy it every way you can.

YouWish agony auntAs long as it doesn't interfere with life, grades, work, etc, there's nothing wrong with being excited! People spend hours with other hobbies, and this is no different.

Raves do have a dark side as well...hopefully your life-altering experience isn't being assisted by ecstasy or any other drugs. Those are damaging to you in many ways.

CindyCares agony aunt Yeah, maybe a tad overboard, - in typical teen fashion, they can't ever do anything half way - but in a nice, positive ,endearing way . You needed to bring passion into your life, and you did it through a form of art , music ( although , all this passion spent over HOUSE music ?... ah well, don't mind me- there's no accounting for tastes ). Who can begrudge you an artistic passion- it beats hands down , if you ask me , a passion for bad boys, or for hard liquors :)

There's nothing wrong with being passionate , just make sure you don't go from passionate to mono-maniac, and that there's still something of you that you can give and trsnsmit also to people who do not share your very same interests, although it's natural that you'll want to spend more time with those who do.

It's an appreciation for an art-form. If it has such a positive effect on you, how can it be wrong? As long as you don't loose site of important things like an education and other responsibilities, you should enjoy it as much as you like.

Just be considerate of others around you. We all have our tastes in music, that doesn't mean our choices always run well with others. There's nothing wrong with have a positive outlook inspired by your favorite type of music.

Please be open to all types of music. For now enjoy what you like!
