birth control

Hi, I was wondering if some of the women out there could help me out? I have thought it out carefully and decided I want to go on birth control. However, how do I get it? What's the most convenient, in your opinion? I hear there are shots, pills, patches... Also, do I need parent signatures or anything? Or can I get it from my doctor witout them knowing... How much does it cost? I will be 18 in a few months, and am still a virgin because I want to have all bases covered before going further with my hubbie.

Thanks!

scared16 agony auntthey all pretty much have the same effectiveness regarding birth control, you need to decide which one best suits you and your lifestyle. yuor gp should be able to help you decide this. as for needing your parents signature most definitely not. it does not matter how old u r if the gp thinks it is suitable for you 2 have birth control then he will give it 2 u confidentially without informing your aprents. you do not have to pay 4 it x x x

If you're over 16 you should be fine, just go to your doctors first to discuss it they're really helpful.

I started with the injections every 11 weeks then went onto the implant in my arm that lasts three years. It was good, but when someone in my family has this they put loads of weight on inc me. Most people don't. At the moment I'm taking the pill. It's called cerazette and you take it once a day, but it gives you 12 hours extra to take it just incase you forget.

My family has extremely high levels of fertility and most have got pregnant while on the pill without missing one, but I've had no problem with this.

stina agony auntHi Anon,

I agree with the poster below about the ring - it's convenient because you don't need to take it everyday since you change it once a month. The pill is good, too, though and most of my friends just stick with that.

I would definitly NOT use the patch, as it has been the subject of many lawsuits (it causes blockages and has killed women. They have since changed the warning label on the product, but the product itself is still the same.) Now there are some people who still use it, but since there are so many options out there, why would you take a chance on something like that, you know? (I used to be on the patch and switched for this very reason.)

As for the shot, I don't know that much about it - but two of my friends who were on it didn't have their periods while using this method. (I know that if you use the pill nonstop w/ no break that your period will probably stop, too.)

Like eyes said, if you're in the states you could go to a Planned Parenthood. They will give you free contraception (or low cost). I know that when I visited them, they had a policy to do a gyn exam before giving me birth control longer than a three month supply. But that was almost 10 years ago now...it might be different. You can also talk to the person you'll be seeing about the various methods and what you'd like to try out.

Take care.

hi it depends where ur living if in Britain you can go to the family planning clinic where everything is free and u need no signatures. In Ireland im afraid nothing is for free. if ur over the age of 16 ur parents neednt know. I have been on the Nuvaring for the past 2 years. I find it very good. All it is is a plastic ring that u insert for 3 weeks and take out for the week of ur period. U must get a new ring every month. Hope this helps just remember that condoms are the only way to prevent std's.

eyeswideopen agony auntHere in the States you can get free birth control from your local Family Planning Center. You do not need parental permission. They can advise you on the different kinds provided. You are almost an adult anyways so you can also go to any doctor and get it from him/her. Sometimes it takes trying a couple different kinds before you find the right one for you. And always remember the pill only prevents pregnancy and doesn't provide any protection from those nasty STD's. Happy sex life!

Ahhhh!how sweet!,I think its a lovely thing to hold back for someone,Well done you.

I have the different types of pill, I have tried the combined pill and the single hormone pill.

With the combined pill you have a break for your period, and with the single hormone you dont break for a period it just happens when it feels like it!.

I dont like the idea of having an injection and I'm not aware of any patches.

After being on the pill on and off for eight years, I fell pregnant after forgetting to take it once!.

It was the single hormone pill, which has a 3 hours window if you forget, after that your no longer protected. the combination pill has a 12 hour prtection gap.

So after I had my son I deced to look into other forms of contraception and decided to go for the implant. Its quite simple, you speak to your doctor about it then they give you a prescription for it, most pharmacies dont hold stock so you need to give the prescrption to your pharmacy a week before the appointment to have the implant put in. then you simply go get it when it comes in, take it along to your appiontment and they make a small incision in the under side of your upper arm and put it in,thats it!. it lasts 3 years then you just get it replaced or have it taken out if you want to try for kids.

I found it to be fail safe because you wont forget to take it and if your taking antibiotics your still protected which is a bonus, because the pill doesnt work if your taking antibiotics.

ok hope yolu have all the information you need, go talk to your doctor and decide which is best for you. If you live in the uk you dont need to tell your parents and all types of female contraception is free. But if your in the states you need to speak to yur local family planning clinc about this.

Ok good luck and hope your wedding night is amazing!.
