Ingrown hairs and skin irritation are a common result of shaving your skin or pulling hairs from their follicles. You could do something permanent like laser hair removal, but I would only recommend that if you were in a longterm sort of committed relationship (a marriage especially) rather than casually dating various men, as apparently guys like specific "looks" and are very set on their opinions when it comes to that (I'm sure plenty don't mind either way, however, and enjoy... variety?). But it depends on your own opinion in the end... do you care more about your own taste when it comes to personal aspects of your appearance or do you feel very affected by your guy's opinions on things. If you Were married, I'd say definitely listen to your husband's take.

This thing really helps - apply massage oil after shaving and then take a bath after around half an hour. You skin will be much smoother and shaving wont hurt so much.

If you go to Lover's Package they have shaving creams that reduce razor burn and bumps. I forget the name of it, but if you go in and ask the staff should lead you to the one I'm thinking of. I've used it for my underarms and private area-- it works well. It's very gentle and reduces irritation down there. If you don't have an intimate store around that would sell something like that, try to find an aloe vera shaving gel or just aloe vera to soothe the area.
