The only thing I think is gross is to let it grow wild.
Like Edina (from Absolutely Fabulous) told her daughter, "You don't wanna run around with sideburns on your thighs."
As for guys' preferences, you can't generalize. Just talk to your husband about it, in a relationship it's good to share feelings. :)

 Honestly as long as you keep yourself trimmed and not bushy I think most men wont complain. Most men do prefer shaved only cause you don't have to worry about hair in your mouth when your going down under. I myself don't really care as long as she takes care of herself and is not to bushy. But my mates most prefer shaved. Its actually a question we do talk about a lot. If their is a particular guy your seeing I would just be blunt and ask. Then you'll know for sure his thoughts about is. Or if your shy just slip it in a conversation I guarantee he'll spill his guts and tell all. I hope this has been of some help.

Although the one male poster below says au naturale is his thing. I personally don't care what my mate likes because I like to be clean shaven 24/7. So my guy just has to put up with my polished hygiene preference. But eew. I had no idea I may be trying to look like a pre-pubescent wanna be! Wow. And all I want is to be clean enough to live with myself. Well anyway, my partners have raved about the shave job and the excellent hygiene.

As a guy, I rather prefer the appearance of a more natural bush. totally shaved is actually a minor turn-off for me - even if I can avoid thinking about plucked chickens, I'd like to think I'm with a mature woman, not a prepubescent 13-year old.
