A female reader, Bev Conolly Australia +, writes (17 July 2006):

Bev Conolly agony auntI hated it. I tried on two different occasions to use it. Different dosages, different brands.

The side effects were dizziness and nausea, 24/7! For me, it was hideous.

There are quite a few options for you, so be sure you consider all the possibilities. My experience was surely in the minority of users, but there it is. Definitely negative.

My advice is to try it for a month or two, and see how you react.

A female reader, jezibelinhell +, writes (16 July 2006):

jezibelinhell agony auntI was on the pill for a year. During that time, I developed migraine headaches whenever I was on my period...I still get them monthly after 5 years off the pill. I also had two periods every month while taking it. Not every form of birth control is right for everyone. Let your doctor suggest which one is best for you. And make sure to call your doctor at the first sign of problems. Whichever method you choose make sure you use it EXACTLY as prescribed. And MUCH credit for doing your research and getting birth control BEFORE you have sex. There are way too many unwanted pregnanies.

A female reader, xxxsoulsistaxxx United Kingdom +, writes (16 July 2006):

xxxsoulsistaxxx agony auntI have just come off the pill after being on it for 2 1/2 years. I found the pill to be a very effective form of contraception, you just have to leave it out so you always remember to take it. I have always been in a relationship whilst on the pill and so didn't have to use any other form of contraception but be careful doing this, still use condoms until the guy and yourself have been tested for STD's.

I actually found the side effects were not so bad. The one I was put on was also for my skin and worked wonders for my acne. Maybe I put on a bit of weight but it was no noticeable, but this will always happen when hormomes are involved.

Overall, I was happy taking the pill, for both contraceptive and other reasons (my skin etc). Speak to your doctor and see what he advises. I wouldn't advise you to use the pill as your only contraceptive though. STD's can still be passed onto you so still always use a condom. At least you then have a back up if the condom splits or something.

Be careful and respect your body. The pill is not an excuse to go round sleeping with people and not using condoms, trust me, there are worse things you can end up with doing that than a baby. Good luck.

A female reader, Angelicc United Kingdom +, writes (16 July 2006):

Angelicc agony auntI personal hate the pill as i'm very forgetful and if i don't remember to take it within the 24 hours of when your meant to, you risk lowing your protection rate. The pill can always have side affects such has boating you up and acene.

but otherwise not to bad...lol
