Me and brother (twin) both get picked on because of our red hair and pale skin. It's been like this for a couple years. But no matter what we do, people still ask us dumb questions about why we are so pale all the time. Why is that?

Everyone is entitled to their own taste, but many people say that redheads with their pale skin and rich hair colouring can rank amongst the most beautiful human type of all. The bullies are always there, motivated by their inner hatreds (poor things) and perhaps jealousy (watch out for this if girls are teasing a girl)...and you have had some good advice in how to counter their comments. But remember that inside you are strong. I am a ginger/redhead by the way who didn't get a lot of teasing/ bullying as a child but encountered a few outrageous comments as an adult - all from females, men were highly appreciative. My hair faded over time to a sandy blonde. Only yesterday I made the decision to go back to the hairdressers and get the rich red copper put back in! Despite being in my 40's, the subtle attention that I got on my way home reminded me of how things used to be! It's such fun! When you are a bit older you will love the mystique and allure that comes with being a redhead! You are perceived as desirable yet slightly unobtainable as you are so unique. It's worth few ignorant/ jealous comments!!! Its a great filter to ensure you attract the right man and you will have your pick of the best ones. i know I found one of the best and he says he first noticed me due to my hair. Your future is bright and I wish I could live my twenties as a young redhead again! Be proud and enjoy your gift!

I think pale skin and red hair on a women is really attractive. But i think if you are a man and have pale skin and red hair then the chances are women will find this unattractive. I know this from personal expieriece. Sad but true. Ingnore people who pick on you!

I hate to admit it, but I'm 31 years old and still get my feelings hurt when I am stared at for being so pale. I actually have dark brown hair and a few freckles, but extremely super pale skin. I hate getting that feeling of being a spectacle and I hate feeling ashamed of my color. I can't understand why it is such an oddity to people. I could never imagine myself walking up to anyone and saying "God, your BROWN!" Or "God, your BLACK!". Seriously, I feel like I would be at home in a traveling circus. I can't believe it's such a big deal. I can't believe at 31 years old, it still hurts when people stare.

Pale skin and red hair makes you stand out. Your peers would make fun of something else if it wasn't that! I have pale skin, red hair and green eyes and at school I was called "fat" (I had puppy fat and was a US size 10)or "wierd" (I tried to be 'different' to avoid fat jibes!). Kids are cruel but just try to stay strong, I know it's not easy but the satisfaction when the 'popular' guys from your school hit on you (as has happened to me!) in a few years time is immense! Keep smiling and try to ignore these losers! xx

A male reader, anonymous, writes (9 April 2008):

hiya, i know the feeling. ive always been as pale as milk and had to put up with moronic questions. the truth is that more often then not these people know that there is nothing wrong with your skin colour its perfectly natural and a genetic advantage our ancestors developed to cope with living in northern europe. these morons only ask you these questions because their own insecurities drive them to point out differences in others, their own worries about fitting in with the crowd means they feel a little more secure in themselves when they can point out someone is more different from them.

the type of people who usualy try to do it are the most gutless cowards who would never have the stones to go up to the big black kid in class and start asking him why hes so tanned.

truth is there is only one thing you can do about it, and thats to realise you are like a diamond among coal. its taken millions of years to develop the genes that make you beautiful, and the best that those people can hope to do when they grow up is pass on their plain average bleeuuch genes.

hopefully when its time for you to have kids you will want them to be as rare and beauiful as you are after all the world could do with more beauty.

Heya. I also have red hair and I am 16 =]

anyways since I was 11 I got picked on over my hair colour and I have recently noticed that I am now getting compliments and no bad comments about the colour of my hair. At the end of the day everyone is unique and just because we have a different hair colour doesnt mean anything. Over time you will work this out but in the meantime ignore the comments as if they know it upsets you they will play on it and do it more. Anyways good luck xxx

Mushgirl agony auntUrgh, I hate that whole thing about slagging off people who have red hair. I think red hair rocks. It's only because you're a minority, and minorities tend to get picked on.

You do only make up 1% of the population in the UK that makes you very unique and i would say very special. Some people cant deal with people others being slightly different. The thing is i am not just saying this but red heads have wonderful hair. Not only are you a twin but a red haired twin you are very special indeed.

It will change and the older you get the more positive coments you will get ,i am sure of it.

Take care ,Holly x

'Ello mate, fellow ginger here. Embrace it buddy, try not to get offended if anyone mentions it, just say "so?" or something, they'll not have a clue what to say.

No point getting nasty with anyone or they'll keep on asking you. Give it a few years and they won't bother you, well they will out of jealousy, my girlfriend says gingers are the best lovers :D

soldierred agony auntPeople can be so mean weather its your hair, your name or anything unusual about you. It does not matter people can be so mean sometimes,

I color my hair often to keep it red because I love it, I actually thought the other day it would be nice to be able to color my hair red once and leave it like that forever but I know that is not possible.

Again I am sorry But I suggest to embrace it one day you will love it and people wont say a word.

Serinity agony auntBecause they are immature. This is a tough age for you, kids your age don't realize that there is nothing wrong with being a little different. My niece has curly light auburn hair, green eyes, and fair skin and she's absolutely beautiful but some of the kids at her school tease her a bit as well. She just says "Don't hate me because I'm beautiful." They have a laugh and that is that! I agree with asking relative questions back, like "why is your hair/skin so dark?" Or comments such as "Because that's the way God made me" or for the people who are really rude, I would say...."because I looked at you, now I don't feel so well". This will pass sweetheart, try not to let it have in impact on who you are. You are as God made you and he has a purpose for all of us. Good luck dear. Mail me if you need more "come back" lines. God bless you!

A female reader, Rolly United Kingdom +, writes (5 February 2008):

Because you're different. Humans dislike difference... they feel threatened by it. People only pick on you because they're small and close minded. Most I imagine are jealous because at your age, most are trying to work out what sets them apart from the crowd.

The questions are hurtful and mindless, but they come from ignorant kids. Laugh in their face, and they won't know where to look, because they'll see their comment was so insignificant to you.

My best friend has red hair, freckles, green eyes and freckles. Suffice to say, she's gorgeous.

Don't worry about it, or try not to :)

A female reader, birdynumnums Canada +, writes (5 February 2008):

birdynumnums agony auntWhen people ask a rude question - Everyone knows that it's rude - BUT - the rudeness embarrasses us into silence and "puts us on our back foot". Return them the favor and challenge the question. "Why on earth would you want to know that?" "What would make you ask a question like that?" "What made you think that your question was appropriate?" "Are you seriously asking me that?" "Do you think that I need to answer a question that has absolutely no merit?" "Are you serious?" "Really?" are a few good examples. Just keep up questioning there questions until they give up and leave you alone, or start shaking your head and laugh because they are so ridiculous. Kids can be very mean at your age, but this is a good way to handle it without becoming mean-spirited yourself. I'm afraid there are always bullies and ignorant people around us and we all have to deal with them from time-to-time. I can think of one or two in my world and I'm 52! Hope this helps you and your brother! Good luck!
