writes: hi umm.. my problems is that i have a fear of kissing. i dont really know why. ive had boyfriends before but of course it doesnt last long because i cant kiss them. i really dont know what to do.it seems like when when my lips become close to theirs i get a very nervous feeling. why i dont know, because i have the desire to kiss but i never go though with it. everything else seems fine like holding hands, hugging and touching (im 17 and i don't plan on having sex anytime soon). but please help me, thank you.

I was the same way when I was your age. Except when I was 16, the first guy who tried to kiss me, I smacked him with my purse. The second time a guy tried to kiss me, I pushed him out the door and closed it in his face. (My brother teased me for about it years ) You will do it when you are ready. Don't stress out about it.

Perhaps you are subconsciously worried about potential disease. Herpes (the oral version) otherwise known as cold sores are transmitted this way. You can get glandular fever by kissing too!
It may just be the grossness factor. Do you think sharing food/drinks is gross? Not liking the idea of swapping spit?
Practice kissing on the cheek first, or other parts of his body, such as his hand. The first kiss is nerve-racking, once it's done, it gets easier.

reader, anonymous, writes (20 September 2008): good job!!!!!!! i agree people these days take kissing and ect. wayyyyyyyy to lightly, like weed it can leed to more serious things, i see kids these days kissing random kids, it disgusts me, if you dont feel comfortable kissing dont do it, one day you will find a guy that doesnt just want sexual incounters. i have that same problem exactly, and i feel that way when i finally get a boyfriend. so your not alone but yeah you might have that problem because you wernt brought up to take those things lightly and GOOD FOR YOU!!!!! your uniqe and its hard to find that these days youl be fine :)
